Statistical Structure of Concave Compositions

نویسندگان

چکیده

In this paper, we study concave compositions, an extension of partitions that were considered by Andrews, Rhoades, and Zwegers. They presented several open problems regarding the statistical structure compositions including distribution perimeter tilt, number summands, shape graph a typical composition. We present solutions to these applying Fristedt’s conditioning device on uniform measure.

Concave Compositions

Concave compositions are compositions (i.e. ordered partitions) of a number in which the parts decrease up to the middle summand(s) and increase thereafter. Perhaps the most surprising result is for even length, concave compositions where the generating function turns out to be the quotient of two instances of the pentagonal number theorem with variations of sign. The false theta function disco...

On flushed partitions and concave compositions

Abstract. In this work, we give combinatorial proofs for generating functions of two problems, i.e. flushed partitions and concave compositions of even length. We also give combinatorial interpretation of one problem posed by Sylvester involving flushed partitions and then prove it. For these purposes, we first describe an involution and use it to prove core identities. Using this involution wi...

Combinatorial proofs of Andrews’ formulas on concave compositions

Concave compositions were recently introduced by Andrews[3] in the study of orthogonal polynomials, see also Andrews [4]. A concave composition of even length 2m, is a sum of the form ∑ ai + ∑ bi such that a1 > a2 > · · · > am = bm < bm−1 < · · · < b1, where am ≥ 0, and all ai and bi are integers. Let CE(n) denote the set of concave compositions of even length that sum to n, and ce(n) be the ca...

Statistical Mechanical Theory of Local Compositions

Mansoori, G.A. and Ely, J.F., 1985. Statistical mechanical theory of local compositions. Fluid Phase Equilibria, 22: 253-275. The concept of local composition has received much attention during the past few years, much of which has been devoted to justifying the empirical model proposed by Wilson in 1964. In this report the concept of local composition is defined on statistical mechanical groun...

Fast rates with high probability in exp-concave statistical learning

We present an algorithm for the statistical learning setting with a bounded expconcave loss in d dimensions that obtains excess risk O(d log(1/δ)/n) with probability 1−δ. The core technique is to boost the confidence of recent in-expectation O(d/n) excess risk bounds for empirical risk minimization (ERM), without sacrificing the rate, by leveraging a Bernstein condition which holds due to exp-c...
